Mexico - National Guard strengthens territorial security coordination and there will be more military presence to fight violence in Mexico''s regions, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Monday.
The President, in his morning press conference, reiterated that 50,000 new elements will be gathered and little by little we will begin this year, but with the constitutional reform we will use veteran staff of the army, the navy and the federal police.
We are waiting for the reform to be approved this week in the 32 regional states and this will help a lot in the national security plans, legally with strict adherence to the Constitution.
He explained that the president can only have 10,000 elements of the federal police for the whole country at this moment, out of the 40,000 troops it has, half are in administrative tasks and the rest in offices and facilities, and that situation could not continue, he said.
Now, with the elements we will have and with the Navy and the army's support, we will carry out operations in regions where violence is triggered. We will permanently have sufficient elements in the territories to guarantee public security and there will be no regions without monitoring or territories under the control of any illegal organization.
We are going to call, he said, the army and navy military in retirement under certain characteristics and new staff and also those who are already in other functions. Planning is being made for the convoking because commanders are needed as well as troop elements, he explained.
He also clarified that the constitutional reform establishes a law for the force management and that legislation will regulate what type of armament and under what conditions they will be used, all this to avoid human rights violations and the non-use of arms not allowed for this kind of work.
