
The Provincial Air Sports Club in Artemisa recently made official the secretariat of the Paragliding and Aeromodelling Club. The club is made up of: President: Jorge Luis Pérez Díaz from Güira de Melena; Secretary: José Chamizo Prats from San Antonio de los Baños; Treasurer, Yadiel Mejías from Güira de Melena, and Gerardo Mesa Pulido from Caimito is in charge of the discipline of Aeromodelling.
The aim of this association is to practice the sport of Aeromodelling and to encourage young people in aerial sports. Young people over 16, interested in entering the ranks of this discipline can contact any member of the Club for admission. They must meet the following requirements: have no criminal record and be physically and mentally fit.
The first references on the Aeromodelling in Cuba date back to the 1930s, when the Aviation Club of Cuba (CAC) was created, which became an associate member of the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI). By that date, the only air sport organized in Cuba was the Aeromodelismo. The Cuban Air Club, dedicated to free flight, was the only modality practiced at that time. The Club was led by its founder, Dr. Ramón Peña, an enthusiastic aeromodelista.
