Havana - Cuba is preparing to live an intense day just hours before the proclamation of its new Constitution Wednesday, in a solemn session that will be accompanied by patriotic acts with the participation of diverse sectors of society.

The Convention Center in Havana will host at 09:00, local time, the session of the National Assembly (ANPP), coinciding with a historic date, the approval on April 10, 1869 in Guaimaro, Camagüey, of the first Constitution of the Republic in Arms, in the midst of the struggle against Spanish colonialism.

The new law will enter into force Wednesday, replacing the law dating from 1976, as of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic, according to the final provisions of the text approved in the Assembly on December 22 and ratified at the polls on February 24 by almost seven million Cubans, 86.5 percent of those who voted.

It is a document considered modern and in tune with the reality of the country, which establishes changes in the structure of the State, recognizes various forms of ownership, including private ownership, the importance of foreign investment, strengthens popular power from the municipalities and extends individual and collective rights and guarantees.

According to ANPP Vice President Ana Maria Mari Machado, schools will hold patriotic acts and 21 gun salutes will be heard in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba and Havana.

For its part, the town of Guaimaro, in the easternmost of Cuba's central provinces, will host a tribute to those who 150 years ago endowed Cuba with its first Constitution.

It will be a solemn and emotional day, with other activities we do not want to advance so that our people maintain the emotion, commented Mari Machado a few days ago.

This Tuesday, the environment around the new constitution has a preview, with the presentation of the Book of Constitutions, in the Capitol, the institutional headquarters of the ANPP.

The document contains all the constitutions, statutes and constitutional laws in force in Cuba between 1812 and 2002.

The edition reproduces the original facsimile form and the first two volumes are published, which will be completed with a third volume to register the process of construction and proclamation of the magna Carta to come into effect this Wednesday.
