Havana - Cuba''s President Miguel Diaz-Canel recalled in Havana on Wednesday the proclamation in Guaimaro, Camagüey, of the first Constitution of the Republic in Arms in 1869, and how the independentists of that time demanded respect for the law.

In a message on Twitter, just a few hours before the proclamation of the Cuban new constitution, Diaz-Canel, quoting National Hero Jose Marti, recalled that on April 10, 1869, 'the Revolution entered the Republic.

Neither Cuba nor history will ever forget that those who were first at war began by being the first to demand respect for the law. 150 years later history and the present are linked by Somos Cuba', wrote the Cuban President.

In another tweet, regarding the proclamation this Wednesday in solemn session of the National Assembly of People's Power of the new Constitution, Diaz-Canel pointed out that 'We only owe it to Cuba. It is our will. We are Cuba. We are Continuity.'

The new constitutional set of laws replaces that of 1976, and will enter into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic, according to the final provisions of the legislation approved by the Assembly on December 22.

The new Constitution considered modern and in keeping with the reality of the country, was ratified at the polls by almost seven million Cubans on February 24.
