Title III of Helms-Burton Act against Cuba Condemned in Ecuador

Quito - The Ecuadorian Coordinator of Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba on Tuesday joined the international rejection of the United States'' decision to enforce Title III of the Helms-Burton Act against the Caribbean nation.
In a statement published on social networks, the organization noted that the extraterritorial scope of the measure violates the sovereignty of Cuba and third countries interested in doing legitimate business with Havana.
'Apparently, the incumbent US government has failed to understand and discern the sovereign right of the peoples to liberate themselves from neocolonial domination, wherever it comes,' the group said.
In that regard, the Coordinator noted that Washington has neither accepted that a socialist revolution triumphed 60 years ago.
'We inform the United States that the republic of Cuba became independent from all barbarism and foreign imposition and enjoys sovereignty, thanks to the rebelliousness and uprising of the Cuban people who, led by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, achieved their definite emancipation on January 1, 1959,' the group stressed. The organization pointed out that the Helms-Burton Act was designed to hinder Cuba's growing economic and commercial relations with the world, so it violates international law and the standards that govern trade and investment.
