Agriculture and university

Artemisa, Cuba - The Municipal University Center (CUM), with the support of specialists, students and organizations, is involved in establishing new alliances that contribute to the development of the municipality of San Antonio de los Baños.

For the past two years, the center has maintained a work agreement with the Platform for Innovation and Local Food (PIAL), a project established in coordination with the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences (Inca), in the province of Mayabeque. The budget is intended to meet the objectives of the European Union.

Yumara Bejerano Armas, director of the CUM, pointed out: "We have the experience of the specialist in charge of the project, the Msc. Maria Elena Reyes, who during these two years has performed a meritorious work to change conceptions, mainly with the people who work in the fields. The Platform for Innovation and Local Food has strengthened scientific research, fairs and forums, with the aim of disseminating knowledge in terms of food production''.

We intend to involve in the project the students of the careers of Accounting and Finance and Sociocultural Management for Development, who will be advised by our professors and those in charge of the Platform, added Bejerano Armas.

A Course will be taught to the members of the ten productive forms and the research centers, as well as to the directors of the agricultural sector and other interested persons in San Antonio de los Baños. The associates of the municipality of San Cristóbal and Artemisa will be able to join the PIAL initiative.
