Venezuela Demands Respect from US Embassy

Caracas - Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza has demanded on Wednesday respect for his country''s embassy in Washington, following the raid carried out on Monday by the Metropolitan Police of that city.
Through a message posted on Twitter, the Venezuelan diplomatic head also demanded to guarantee the human rights of the activists who protect the embassy with authorization of the Bolivarian government.
'For the umpteenth time, we demand the US government to comply with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, protects our diplomatic premises in Washington and respects the Human Rights of the activists who protect the building with authorization from the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela,' Arreaza posted on his Twitter account.
On Monday night, officers of the Washington Metropolitan Police burst illegally into the building and caused material damages to the facilities where the Venezuelan embassy was located before the bilateral relations were broken off in January.
The police also threatened to evict the US activists who remain in the premises since March 19 as the Embassy Protection Group, authorized by Caracas authorities.
The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations establishes that, in case that the diplomatic relations between two countries were broken off, or at the end of a mission in a definitive or temporary manner, the receiving State will be obliged to respect and protect, even in case of armed conflict, the premises of the mission, as well as its assets and archives.
