Diaz-Canel Highlights Solidarity Work of Cuban Doctors Worldwide

Havana - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today highlighted the solidarity work carried out by Cuban medical workers in more than 160 nations.

'More than 600,000 Cubans have provided medical services in more than 160 countries in the past 55 years', wrote the Cuban Head of State in Twitter and added that the United States is seeking to re-establish the program of brain drain to the Cuban doctors.

Cuban-born Senators Marco Rubio and Bob Menendez introduced a resource in Congress in Washington to require the current administration to re-establish the brain drain program for health professionals serving abroad.

The Cuban President denounced last January the attempts to impose the Parole Program for Cuban doctors, established by George W. Bush's government (2001-2009) and repealed by Barack Obama's (2009-2017).

'They're trying to impose a perverse tool to encourage brain drain. One more anti-Cuban campaign, demonstrating imperial impotence in the face of revolutionary conquests. Its supporters are not able to favor a civilized relationship, they are blinded by the arrogance #SomosCuba', wrote the Cuban President in his account @DiazCanelB.

In this Wednesday's message, Diaz-Canel also referred to the free training in Cuba of some 35,613 health professionals from 138 countries.
