Preparations for Central American Games 2022 in Panama

Panama - The president of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (Odecabe), Steve Stoute, held an audit meeting here to oversee preparations for the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games 2022.

During the meeting with the organizing committee of the event, which will be held in this capital, the senior manager learned about the advances in technical, construction, medical treatment, marketing and advertising, communication and hosting, among other aspects.

Regarding this, the director of the Audit Committee of the Odecabe, José Sosa, expressed his satisfaction with the work done so far, while the president of the organizing committee, Henry Pozo, assured the nation is ready to celebrate a great sports festival in the region.

For these competitions, Panama plans the construction of an aquatic center with two swimming pools, another racket court, two sport centers for volleyball and fighting disciplines and an exclusive stadium for athletics, among other works.

In December 2015, the representatives of the 25 federations of the Olympic Committee of Panama endorsed the request of the capital's mayor José Blandón for the capital to be one of the aspirants to the great sports event, venue that was granted in February 2017.

'(...) the Municipality of Panama has resources and will adapt facilities complying with the necessary dimensions. We will work with the central government that is already aware of the event,' Blandón said at the time.

An Olympic village will not be built, but the 27 delegations will stay in hotels, while the budget for the event will be 200 million dollars.

The elected Panamanian president, Laurentino Cortizo, assured that the country is not ready to take on the challenge of being the headquarters of the Central American Games in 2022, for which he called 'to find a way for our athletes to be prepared, a work we must do by coming to the presidency. '
