Brasilia - Brazil's Confederation of Workers (CUT) on Tuesday condemned the worsening of the U.S. blockade against Cuba and the activation of Title III of Helms-Burton Act against the Caribbean nation.

'That chapter of the American legislation insults the Latin American workers and peoples', Yuri Soares, Secretary for Social Policy at CUT, told Prensa Latina.

The provision infringes the international law by allowing U.S. citizens can take legal action in the courts of that country for goods and properties nationalized by the Cuban government, in legitimate right after the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, he said.

Soares describes that law as extraterritorial, it prevents that companies establish commercial transactions with Cuba. Amid a globalized economy, we cannot accept that Washington assumes the right to decide with which country we can negotiate and have relations', he noted.

For the union leader, 'the Helms-Burton Act, which entered into force on May 2, seeks to extend the blockade against Cuba, through blackmails and illegal U.S. pressure against third countries, their governments and companies, to drown the Cuban economy.'
