Pope Francis Criticizes Globalization of Indifference

Vatican City - Pope Francis on Monday criticized the ''globalization of indifference'' generated in more developed economic societies due to individualism, combined with the utilitarian mentality and multiplied by the media.
In a message on the World Day of Refugees, the Holy Pontiff noted that 'in this scenario, migrants, refugees, displaced people and victims of human trafficking become a symbol of exclusion', as they face difficulties due to their condition and negative judgments, because they are blamed for social problems.
The attitude towards them constitutes a sign of alarm that warns us about the moral decadence that we are facing if we continue to promote the culture of elimination, said the Pope, who added that 'on this path, every individual who does not meet the canons of physical, mental and social wellbeing runs the risk of being marginalized and excluded.'
Pope Francis underlined how today's world is increasingly more elitist and cruel with the excluded, and the developing countries continue to exhaust their best natural and human resources for the benefit of few privileged markets.
Wars only affect some regions of the world; however, the manufacture of weapons and their sales takes place in other regions, which do not want to take responsibility later for the refugees generated by those conflicts, the Pope added.
The consequences are always suffered by the small ones, the poor ones and the most vulnerable ones, stressed the Pope, adding that exclusivist development makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.
