Lopez Obrador to Trump: Social Problems Are not Solved with Taxes

Mexico - Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador replied to the threats from his US peer, Donald Trump, saying that social problems are not solved with taxes or coercive measures. After the occupant of the White House warned that 5-percent tariffs will be imposed on all Mexican imports if the Government from this country does not solve the migration crisis, the Mexican president replied in a public letter that he is aware of Trump''s stance regarding our country.
The peoples and the nations that we represent as government deserve that in light of any conflicts in bilateral relations, no matter how serious they are, we should resort to dialogue, and prudence and responsibility must be prioritized, Lopez Obrador said in the letter, which literally says:
'President Trump: social problems are not solved with taxes or coercive measures. How to turn overnight the country of fraternity with the migrants of the world into a ghetto, into a closed space, where those who seek to live free of poverty with effort and work are stigmatized, ill-treated, persecuted, expelled, and their right to justice is cancelled? The Statue of Liberty is not an empty symbol.'
Shortly before, Trump had openly threatened Mexico on Twitter, 'On June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tariff on all goods coming into our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico.'
