Unanimous Support for Lopez Obrador after US Threats against Mexico

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has received unanimous support from the people, entrepreneurs, officials and governors in light of the threats made by Donald Trump to impose 5-percent tariffs on all Mexican imports. The president sent a public letter to his US counterpart in which he ratified his stance on the treatment of migrants and his criterion that the only solution is to solve the ground causes of the exodus.

The shows of support for Lopez Obrador emphasize that it is inadmissible that the US Government imposes tariffs on Mexican imports due to the migration crisis.

The undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for North America, Jesus Seade, said it would be a disaster if the United States imposes tariffs on Mexico, due to the serious consequences that it would bring.

Gustavo Hoyos, the national president of the Employers' Corporation, called on Twitter to act persuasively so that Trump's threat cannot become a reality, and to give a strong response if the tariffs come into force.

For his part, Kenneth Smith, former technical negotiation chief of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), noted on Twitter that if the United States imposes the tariffs, it would be violating the NAFTA and its commitments to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
