Cuba qualifies to Women Handball World Championship

Cuba won the gold medal of the 2019 North American and Caribbean (NORCA) Women Handball Championship concluded last Sunday in Mexico, and they also earned the solo ticket the tournament granted to the World Championship to be held this year in Japan from November 30 to December 15.
In the final, the Cuban team, Barranquilla 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games bronze medalist, beat 27-24 Puerto Rico, runner-up in that same regional contest.
In semifinals, they also defeated 30-23 the Dominican Republic, champions in the Central-Caribbean competition on Colombian soil.
Glennis Reyes, Shakira Robert and Lisandra Lusson, with nine, six and five goals, respectively, stood out for the winning side, according to the official website of the event.
The new NORCA monarchs had an overall balance of five wins and no loss, as in the preliminary round for Group B they achieved victories of 30-17, 25-17 and 27-21 over Canada, Greenland and United States, in that order.
The Cuban squad had the priceless contribution of Eyatne Rizo, Yunisleidis Camejo, Lusson, Lorena Tellez and Reyes, who are all currently playing in the professional leagues of Spain and France.
