Havana - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has reiterated on Tuesday that his country will never negotiate under pressures and threats from the US imperial government.
'Fidel taught us that: Honor is not negotiated, homeland is not negotiated, dignity is not negotiated, independence, sovereignty, history, glory are not negotiated! In the face of imperial threats and pressures: You can't negotiate,' the President wrote in his Twitter account @DiazCanelB.
Recently, the Cuban government repudiated in the strongest terms the measures announced by the United States on June 4, 2019.
They reinforce the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years, causing a high cost to the national economy that in 2018 exceeded 134 billion dollars at current prices in losses due to that hostile policy.
The new escalation including barring private vessels (cruises) and planes from docking and landing on the island, effective from June 5, further reinforces the harsh restrictions already suffered by U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba.
In this case, the intention continues to be to wrest political concessions from the Cuban nation, by suffocating its economy and creating despair, discontent and anger among the population.
Likewise, they also seek to prevent the people of the United States from knowing the reality of Cuba, which counters the slanderous propaganda that is daily manufactured against the island.
These are actions that disregard the opinion of the majority US citizens, whose interest in knowing Cuba and exercising their right to travel was evidenced in the 650,000 who visited the island in 2018, along with half a million Cubans living in the United States.
