Havana, Cuba - Veteran outfielder Frederich Cepeda heads the Cuban baseball team that will depart tomorrow to Canada, to play from June 14 to 30 in the Can-Am League.
As result of the dialogue and bilateral efforts, the corresponding visas were received yesterday afternoon, Yovani Aragon, Cuban national baseball director, told JIT sports publication.
Aragon, also vice president of the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB), confirmed that the presence on Canadian soil will also allow starting visa getting procedures to the United States, with a view to the traditional Cuba-USA friendly match, scheduled for North Carolina from next July 2-6.
As for the announced match versus Nicaragua, the former pitcher said that it remains in force, but at a later date than July 7th, when the team will be back in Cuba.
The squad that will travel to Canada is made up by catchers Frank Camilo Morejon, Yosvany Alarcon, Yunior Ibarra and Alfredo Fadraga.
Yordanis Samon, Carlos Benitez, Raul Gonzalez, Jorge Aloma, Cesar Prieto, Orlando Acebey and Andres Hernandez will be the infielders.
While the outfielders are the young players Yoelkis Guibert, Yuniesky Larduet and Yoelkis Cespedes, in addition to veteran switch hitter Cepeda.
Finally, the pitchers chosen were Wilson Paredes, Frank Luis Medina, Pablo Luis Guillen, Pedro Alvarez, Yariel Rodriguez, Misael Villa (L), Yosimar Cousin, Lazaro Blanco, Freddy Asiel Alvarez, Rafael Sanchez, Norge Carlos Vera, Yudiel Rodriguez and the teenager Roberto Hernandez.
As it can be seen, there is an interesting mix of experience and youth and without a doubt, head coach Rey Anglada will line-up a team very different from previous ones in search of a promising outcome ahead of the Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games.
