As part of the activities organized by the Ariguanabo Foundation...

"State of the Cuban avifauna, its affectations and conservation" was the main theme of the conference given at the theater of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power in San Antonio de los Baños, by Dr. Hiram González from the Ecology and Systematics Institute.

Among the main objectives of the event's  organizers  stand out, to raise awareness among the inhabitants of Ariguanabo about the numerous risks that affect the birds and how to protect them, as well as to cultivate an environmental education that allows a harmonious relationship between man and nature.

Dr. Gonzalez said: "Birds play a fundamental role in nature, because they allow the dissemination of seeds. Some of them are pollinators, and also perform the function of biological controllers, therefore, contribute to the balance of ecosystems and the environment in general, hence the importance of their conservation and protection.

Giraldo Alayón, prominent Ariguanabo zoologist, drew the attention of the participants to the deterioration of the habitat of several animals, especially birds, due to the negative action of the human being.

This conference is part of a series of activities sponsored and organized by the Ariguanabo Foundation, on the occasion of the World Environment Day, which will conclude with a concert by Silvio Rodríguez, at the Parque del Soldado in San Antonio de los Baños, on Friday 21 At 6 pm.
