Despite evaluation, it is urgent to get rid of deficiencies

Artemisa, Cuba - The National Group of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture evaluated the province well in its 84th tour, although it pointed out difficulties in key programs such as the agroecological management of pests and animal feed production.

Elizabeth Peña, national director of the Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture Program, highlighted that eight municipalities achieved better results than 83 tour , especially Güira de Melena township, with the evaluation of well in all visits and achieved the best score, followed by San Antonio de los Baños, Alquízar, Candelaria and San Cristóbal.

Peña visited the agroecological farm La Burgambilia, in Caimito, and the Nursery of Ornamental Plants of Gil Family, in Guanajay, which were considered as examples of good practices.

Elizabeth said that, although Artemisa is advancing, there are setbacks in the functioning, the work of AZCUBA Business Group and Education , as well as the subprograms of organic fertilizer, agroecological management of pests and the production of animal feed.

José Barreto, specialist in urban agriculture in the Artemisa Agricultural and Forestry Business Group, highlighted that four National Reference Units were ratified and a new National Reference was granted.

The commission recognized with the National Excellence the porcine farm of Yoandri, in Candelaria, with the Double Excellence to the cattle farm of Yuniel González, in San Antonio de los Baños, and with the Triple Excellence to the Chivera de Bello, in Bauta.
