Havana - Cuba is holding this Friday a business forum focused on foreign investment in the country as part of its national development strategy, an official source confirmed Friday.

The event, which is being held at the National Hotel in Havana, is hosted by the national Chamber of Commerce and co-sponsored by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and the European Commission, Cuban Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Minister Rodrigo Malmierca announced on Twitter.

The event will be attended by the Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development of the European Union (EU), Neven Mimica, who arrived in Cuba on Thursday.

Malmierca stressed that the collaboration between Havana and the European Commission 'takes place as part of the bilateral Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement and prioritises sectors such as renewable energy and food security'.

More than 35 percent of Cuba's foreign trade is with the EU, half of which is held by Spain and the rest by the other 27 member states, he said.

This week the same hotel also hosted a business forum in which 28 delegates representing almost twenty companies from the United Kingdom participated.

For two days visitors learned about the broad portfolio of investments in Cuba in different sectors such as agriculture and energy.
