Argentinean Trade Union Strengthens Relations with Cuba

Buenos Aires - Representatives of the Autonomous Workers' Confederation of Argentina (CTA Autonoma) ratified the historic ties of brotherhood with Cuba, and expressed solidarity with the Caribbean island, amid constant aggressions by the United States.

At a meeting with Cuban Ambassador in Buenos Aires Orestes Perez, CTA Autonoma General Secretary Ricardo Peidro noted the historic relationship with the Caribbean nation. We came to exchange on the new measures and aggression by the United States against your country, he pointed out.

He highlighted the trade union's willingness to carry out as many solidarity actions as possible before the anti-imperialist Meeting for Democracy and Peace, scheduled for November in Havana.

Also present at the meeting were CTA Autonoma Undersecretary Hugo Godoy, and Oscar Veron, general delegate of the Association of State Workers (ATE)-Vias Navegables and a member of the Argentinean Movement of Solidarity with Cuba. For his part, the Cuban ambassador explained Cuba's current situation, affected by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years, which has been tightened over the past few months since the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.

'This relationship is fundamental, because both the ATE and the CTA Autonoma have always been the support of any measure to defend the Cuban Revolution. For us, from the vision of the Argentinean Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, this meeting was essential and the results have been satisfactory,' Oscar Veron said.

At the end of the meeting, the Cuban ambassador invited the representatives of that trade union to participate in the meeting in Havana, where representatives of solidarity movements and trade unions from all over the world will gather to condemn the aggressive policies by the Government of the United States.
