Tobacco in Ariguanabo

Artemisa, Cuba - When talking about the tobacco campaign in San Antonio de los Baños, specifically the production as the main economic line of the municipality, we immediately think of the Lázaro Peña tobacco company, which is dedicated to the production of tobacco, mainly to the production of layers for export and national consumption.
The company was created as ''Plan Tabaco'' on October 1, 1969. On December 31, 1975, it became the Lázaro Peña Tobacco Company with a stable and qualified work force; incentivated to obtain superior results.
It uses marketing as a management tool, allowing the services offered by the Base Enterprise Units to meet the demands of customers, maintaining the quality and efficiency requirements. The scientific-technical advances are applied with an adequate economic evaluation and contracting system, which allows the correct functioning of the Company. Among the subordinate Basic Units of Cooperative Production (UBPC) that contribute to the company's work stand out Antonio Briones Montoto, Batalla de las Guásimas and 5 de Septiembre.
The UBPCs of the company are economically profitable, because with their productive results they contribute to the local development of the municipality. Some workers of the entity are Heroes of the Republic of Cuba and several companies have the National Vanguard Collective distinction.
Engineer Vladimir Andino, director of the company, highlighted the process of mechanized planting, with the use of machines for transplant. Since 2018, renewable energy began to be used in controlled curing, in order to save fuel by replacing oil with wood and rice straw. In the Lazaro Peña company, men participate actively in the production of the best Habano in the world.
