Brasilia - Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's defense lawyer denounces on Monday that the change in the denunciation of businessman Leo Pinheiro was illegally built in the so-called case of the Triplex Apartment to condemn the former Brazilian president.

In a report signed and published on the Workers' Party (PT) official website, lawyers Cristiano Zanin and Valeska Martins claim that the report published on Sunday by Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reinforces the illegitimate and illegal way the sentence of former President Lula was built in the so-called Triplex Case.

They allege that according to the history of the case, Pinheiro (remains jailed), 'who throughout the process had never incriminated Lula, was pressured and suddenly altered his previous position in exchange for benefits negotiated with prosecutors of Curitiba, obtaining the reduction substantial of his penalty.'

Lula was convicted in the first instance to nine years and six months in jail in July 2017, when Judge Sergio Moro, currently Minister of Justice, took it for granted that he received a luxury apartment from the OAS contractor (Pinheiro was executive) in exchange for favoring that company. The former factory worker denies all the accusations.

According to his defense, in 2016 and 2017 the Attorney General's Office was asked to 'duly verify information disclosed by the press, informing that Leo Pinheiro was being forced to artificially include the name of former President Lula in his agreement delation. These procedures, however, were archived.'

These elements show that there was never an intention to rush the truth of the facts, but only to impose a conviction on Lula without any proof of guilt and disregarding those of innocence that we presented during the trial, the lawyers stress.
