El Salvador, Cuba Talk to Resume Health Cooperation

San Salvador - The governments of El Salvador and Cuba began talks to resume the island''s medical cooperation in this country, which includes the return of its successful ophthalmological mission.
Miguel Orellana, cooperation director of El Salvador's Ministry of Health, agreed on Tuesday along with Cuban ambassador to this country Rene Ceballo, the guidelines to advance the bilateral cooperation agenda and resume several existing projects.
Ceballo highlighted the high and positive social impact the Cuban collaboration is characterized, as well as the willingness to accompany the Salvadoran people in caring and improving their well-being.
Diplomatic sources told Prensa Latina that this is the first official step to reactivate the Cuban medical brigade in El Salvador, and both sides expressed their willingness to do so, and even implement new projects.
The completion of a master's degree in nephrology, pending from the previous government, as well as the application of Cuban medicines Heberprot-P and Melagenin, was highlighted among them.
Since 2015, Cuban professionals have worked in an ophthalmological center in the Salvadoran department of San Vicente, where nearly 150,000 consultations and more than 23,000 cataract, pterygium and retinopathy surgeries have been provided free of charge.
