Artemisa, Cuba - Members of the Directorate of the National Genetics Center, headed by its Director Beatriz Marcheco, exchanged experiences with the doctors of the Primary Health Care Program in the municipalities of Güira de Melena, Alquízar and San Antonio de los Baños.

Dr. Tamara Hernández Pérez, Master in Genetic Counseling and Director of the Provincial Genetics Center in Artemisa, explained that the meeting is part of a strategy of the Ministry of Public Health to promote education on this topic with all the specialists involved during the stage of health care for pregnant women. She added that this process has already been carried out in Artemisa, Guanajay, Bauta, Caimito and Mariel.

One of the topics most addressed was, according to Dr. Tamara Hernández Pérez,  "Education for the prevention of genetic diseases and congenital defects during pregnancy."

This meeting will take place next week in the municipalities of San Cristóbal, Candelaria and Bahía Honda, in the province of Artemisa.
