Cuba with over 60 Athletes at Parapan American Games Lima-2019

The Cuban delegation to the 6th Parapan American Games in Lima will have around 60 athletes, Osmany Esquivel, a member of the National Association of the Blind (ANCI), said Tuesday.

In statements to the Cuban News Agency, Esquivel indicated that the blind will participate in a track and field, judo and swimming, while those of the Cuban Association of the Physically Handicapped (Aclifim) will participate in taekwondo, badminton, table tennis, weights and wheelchair tennis.

He pointed out that the handing over of the delegation will take place next Saturday at the Jose Marti Memorial, in Havana and Omara Durand, from the ANCI; and Lorenzo Castillo, from the Aclifim, outstanding athletes in their respective activities will receive the national flag.

The continental multi-sport event for people with disabilities will be held from August 23 to September 1, with the presence of thousands of athletes from more than 20 nations.

Cuba finished sixth in the table by country four years ago in the Toronto-2015 program, with 19 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 13 bronze medals.

Brazil (109-74-74), Canada (50-63-55), United States (40-51-44), Mexico (38-36-39) and Colombia (24-36-30) finished in the top five positions.
