Miguel Diaz-Canel Extolls Legacy of Renowned Cuban Intellectual

Havana - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Wednesday extolled the legacy of the intellectual and researcher Fernando Ortiz (1881-1969), whose work was acknowledged here as Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
On his Twitter account, the president said, 'Well deserved acknowledgement of the work by the eminent Cuban sage #SomosCuba #SomosContinuidad'.
Such a distinction to Ortiz's legacy was announced on Tuesday at the main lecture hall of the San Geronimo University College, in Havana's historic heart, on his 138th birthday.
Ortiz's valuable contributions in the field of Cuban Social Sciences in the 20th century were highlighted at the ceremony.
The declaration establishes the State's commitment to safeguarding, preserving, promoting and spreading the legacy of the illustrious Cuban intellectual among the current and future generations.
Institutions such as the Jose Marti National Library, the Literature and Linguistics Institute, the Africa House, the National Music Museum and the Fernando Ortiz Foundation are strongly committed to that purpose.
