Experienced teachers request to return to classrooms

Havana - After the news of the salary increase in the budgeted sector, more than 5,000 teachers have requested to return to the classrooms for the upcoming school year, Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, Minister of Education, stated on her Twitter account.
"The requests are being made in the municipal education authority offices The fact that teachers with experience and willingness to work well are returning to the classrooms favors teacher coverage," said Velazquez.
Low wages in the sector has impacted the availability of teachers, and observes are describing the return as "good news",
Teacher coverage is an ever-present item among the priorities of the Cuban Ministry of Education. On June 17, the minister said on TV that 94% teachers’ jobs were covered for the next school-year.
The vacancies remaining will be filled by hiring retired teachers, others currently involved in other sectors of production and services, and student assistants.
