NAM Defended in Venezuela Needed Peace among Nations

Caracas - Venezuela was the venue of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), a space where member states defended the premise of strengthening peace among nations.

Under the slogan 'Promotion and Consolidation of Peace through Respect for International Law,' the 120 representatives of the political coordination bloc advocated for respect multilateralism in times when the hegemonic powers are trying to suffocate progressive nations.

During his speech in the forum, Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza reiterated the commitment of Venezuela, which holds the NAM presidency since 2016, with dialogue, understanding and cooperation as tools to solve the problems that arise in the current global situation.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov also urged NAM members to work together against the sanctions of Western governments targeting the States that 'do not meet their expectations.'

Meanwhile, Bolivian Foreign Minister Diego Pary stressed that Washington attacks the multilateral system through the ignorance of the institutionality of international organizations, the violation of International Law and its basic principles.

Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riad Malki said that the NAM members has the collective and individual responsibility to defend a world order based on rules and mutual respect, and not in aggression, unilateralism and hostility.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reiterated his country's willingness to work to establish a democratic, fair and equitable international order, which responds to the demand for peace, sustainable development and justice of the peoples.

As part of the alternatives to face the siege, the NAM members set up a group to study the coercive measures by the US government against sovereign peoples, in order to seek methods to counter the aggressions.

The NAM Ministerial Meeting that lasted four days in Caracas is the preamble of the Summit of Heads of State and Governments to be held in October, in Azerbaidzhan, where Venezuela will hand over the presidency of the organization to that country.
