Climbing the podiums again and again, kicking and dodging, scoring and not scoring points, is part of her daily life.
“With only six years, while I was studying at Libya Governeur school in San Antonio de los Baños, enlisting was arried out for Halcones del Ariguanabo Taekwondo Academy, and I registered without hesitation.”
“I was always a little shy but active, and I liked that sport, so at first sight. My first coaches were José Yusney Scull and Norge Alberto Rodríguez, to whom I thank everything I know and my achievements . ”
Is it true that when you were little you fought against boys ?
She smiles mischievously and answers. "That's right, coaches from other municipalities did not want me to fight with girls so they wanted me to fight against boys and I also defeated them."
Which are your strengths and weaknesses in combat?
“Among my strengths I can tell you that I have good elasticity which allows me to make head attacks frequently, they are the ones that give more score and I have won many fights with them. On the other hand I have to improve in technical matters, that is a day-to-day work ”.
Despite your young age you have had a career full of achievements.
“I was a provincial champion in the 9-10 and 11-12 years categories, pioneer national champion in 2017 competing in 36 kilograms, bronze in 2018 Pioneer School Games in Santiago de Cuba and recently Champion in the National School Games held in Villa Clara in 41 kilogram division. Family plays a key role in every athlete´s life . What has they represented for your career?
“Look, journalist, if it wasn't for my mom and my grandmother who took me to training and all competitions in other municipalities, I would not be practicing this sport. They have made a great effort but they are very happy with me. ”
Expectations for your near future and later?
I am currently studying at Julio Díaz sport school in Artemisa, where we have another level of demand, as we make many competitions in other provinces. I like being there due to the training I have . For now I just hope to continue training and improving myself every day until I achieve my dream of representing Cuba in other countries . ”
No doubt this girl has big expectations . I am sure she will fulfill her dreams, because quality and discipline has a lot. Her results and the opinion of many experts support it.
She and other champions are the result of the careful work carried out by the group of coaches in Halcones del Ariguanabo Taekwondo Academy, an institution that has recovered this sport in San Antonio and it is an example of good results in the province and the country.
