Havana - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel wished Cuban poet and writer Nancy Morejon a happy 75th birthday. ''Congratulations with all respect and affection for the poet Nancy Morejón,'' the president tweeted.
The President of the Councils of State and Ministers accompanied his message with a post by the Director of the Jose Marti Cultural Society and the Marti Program Office, Abel Prieto, in which he described Morejon as one of the most important figures of Cuban poetry.
The essayist, journalist, literary and theatrical critic and translator has also gained huge prestige for devoting herself to the study of Nicolas Guillen's work and Caribbean literature, according to experts.
Among the recognitions for her literary work are the insignia of the Order of Merit of the Republic of France, the replica of Maximo Gomez's Machete and, in 2013, the distinction of Master of Youth granted by the Hermano Saiz Association.
Her books Piedra Pulida, Elogio y Paisaje, and La Quinta de los Molinos received the Critics' Prize in 1986, 1997, and 2000, respectively.
