Artemisa, Cuba - Tobacco production, from the first to the last phase, is the perfect formula for obtaining a good Habano. In the municipality of San Antonio de los Baños, tobacco workers are committed to success. According to Vladimir Andino, director of the entity, Lazaro Peña Tobacco Enterprise leads part of the Cuba's tobacco production and 6 percent of the tobacco layers emanating from the country, achieving better benefits for the Cuban tobacco industry.

“650 hectares of tobacco are currently planted, for a production plan of 800 tons and 160 hectares of tobacco layers. Seven Base Enterprise Units (UEB), located in the province of Artemisa, are linked to the campaign. San Antonio de los Baños has the UEBs Aseguramiento, Servicios Técnicos-Integrales y Escogida del Tabaco, which to date has produced 12 tons of tobacco layers for export,” said Andino.

The development of the Agricultural Campaign allowed the company to obtain good results, based on the quality parameters. The plan was over fulfilled, and now 150 tons of tobacco layers are being collected. The sales plan must reach 123 million pesos this year, thanks to the support of the municipality of Candelaria and San Cristóbal in Artemisa, where high economic standards are generated as a result of the destemming of tobacco leaves.

Inés María Hernández, director of Benefit at the Lazaro Peña Tobacco Enterprise, said that during this stage 794 tons were received for the benefit  -more than 300 tons are already benefited. It is estimated to obtain 140 tons for export and the process must be completed in December, paying the planned values, she added.
