Buenos Aires, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) The smoke caused by the shocking forest fires in the Amazon this Friday hit the northern region of Argentina, while specialists warned that it could also affect the capital.

In an interview with the TN news channel portal, meteorologists and experts stressed that the polluting clouds, which have already reached the northern provinces, could affect this city as they warned about the possible impacts on the population due to breathing problems.

As stated by Oscar Rodas, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Climate Change manager for Paraguay, the black clouds of smoke from the fires raging in the 'lungs of the planet' are today causing allergies and risks to people's health.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Cogollo, environmental engineer, warned TN news channel about the possibility that smoke hit Buenos Aires as the polluted air is circulating in the atmosphere and can travel thousands of kilometers.

Fires have so far ravaged half a million hectares of the Amazon, and begun to spread to Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay.
