Lula: I Want to Be Released with My Innocence Proven

Brasilia-(Prensa Latina) Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva once again reiterated that he wants to be release from his political imprisonment with one hundred percent of his innocence recognized, and today called for a fair trial.

'I'm not a pigeon that you put an anklet on. My greatest pleasure would be to get out of here and for (former judge Sergio) Moro and (prosecutor Deltan) Dallagnol to enter,' who should be arrested for the crimes they committed in the proccessing of the Lava Jato Operation, Lula said during a long interview with TV 247.

During the two-hour talk, the former workers' leader discussed the organization of the political struggle, showed indignation at the illegalities of Lava Jato, and attacked President Jair Bolsonaro's stance on the environment.

He pointed out that the defense of national sovereignty against the attacks and privatization of the Bolsonaro government is the instrument capable of uniting the left in the country to dispute the next presidential elections.

'It will be united if it builds an instrument of unification, a program in defense of national sovereignty, sovereign interests and a sovereign nation, centered on fundamental rights,' he remarked.

Lula criticized Bolsonaro's stance on the burning of the Amazon and assured that it is easy to identify who is starting the fires by using satellite images.

When asked what the first thing he would do on being released was, the former president replied that he wants to visit the vigil in front of the Federal Police headquarters in the southern city of Curitiba, where he has been imprisoned since April 7, 2018, for alleged acts of corruption, to thank those mobilized there for their support.
