Cuban President evaluates implementation of scientific programs

Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, continued his systematic review of the implementation of programs for the preservation of the nation's historical memory, for the implementation of actions to address climate change in the country, and for the application of science, technology and innovation in the sugar agroindustry.

At the meeting it was reported that Cuban archives and libraries have received repair and constructive maintenance actions in order to improve the conditions of these centers.

According to a report broadcast by the National Television News Tuesday, the president highlighted the results achieved in this area and the importance of incorporating new equipment in these centers as much as possible.

Representatives of the Azcuba business group informed about their current development program and the gaps to overcome for the increase in the production of sugar and its derivatives. The Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, presented a list with recommendations to improve the results in this sector.

Miguel Diaz-Canel urged to apply more science and innovation in the sugar agroindustry: "Undoubtedly to seek a change innovation is needed, to distinguish where to direct scientific research, what technologies we are going to apply, and finance it. It is essential to look for structures that make innovation possible and we have to go to all areas: seeds, cultivation, cutting, varieties, industry... We have a lot of research, but what we need is to update it and apply it a broader scale. If we organize ourselves well, in two years we will be able to see the impact of what we do in this sense".
