Nasau - Hurricane Dorian continues to strike the Bahamas this Tuesday, without changes to its course and maximum sustained winds of more than 190 kilometers per hour, category three on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

Having already battered the island of Grand Bahama for over 30 hours, deadly Dorian will cause further damage to the island this Tuesday morning, after five deaths were confirmed, and more than 10,000 homes damaged.

Prime Minister of the Bahamas Hubert Minnis described the meteorological phenomenon as a historic tragedy for the country, since the devastation is unprecedented and extensive.

The international solidarity in response to the tragic situation stands out, especially that of leaders of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), who ratified the support for the people and government of the Bahamas.

Prime Ministers Allen Chastanet of Saint Lucia and Andrew Holness of Jamaica, as well as Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro, and Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega, also expressed their support.

Cuba, through its Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, confirmed the readiness of the island's collaborators in the Bahamas to contribute to the recovery after Hurricane Dorian.

International organizations such as the United Nations and the European Union also stated that they were ready to support the reconstruction of the Bahamas with their emergency services.

The US-based National Hurricane Center reports that Dorian will begin to move slowly west/northwest, but will continue to affect Grand Bahama Island in the morning.

The storm will approach Florida's east coast from Tuesday through Wednesday night. It will then continue along the coastline of Georgia and South Carolina on Wednesday night and Thursday.
