The 11th session of the Cuba-Russia Intergovernmental Commission's Transport Group began Wednesday in Havana, and it will be a favorable opportunity to focus on issues related to the railway and maritime fields.

Naima Alfonso Acosta, Cuban Deputy Minister of Transport, expressed at the opening that the economic and trade relations with Russia and the effective participation of that nation in Cuba's plans until 2030, maintain a high priority for the country.

The development of joint ventures in this field is of high importance, and the number of means of transportation provided from Russia, especially railways and automobiles, has grown in recent years, Alfonso Acosta added.

According to the Deputy Minister, they are working to progress in projects such as the modernization of the Cuban port infrastructure and the development of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System infrastructure.

This meeting should be useful as a pause to reflect and project future work, review what has been achieved, specify what remains to be done and, above all, identify those aspects where progress is not made at the right rhythm in order to take appropriate action, she remarked.

For his part, Zverev Dmitry Stanislavocich, the Russian deputy minister for the sector, said that collaboration between the two countries is very active and regular meetings are held.

Representatives of the Russian Ministry of Transport and companies of that country, as well as Cuban executives and specialists related to the sector, will participate in the working meeting, to be held until Thursday.
