Cuban Sierra wins Giro de Toscana

Cuban cyclist Arlenis Sierra won the 2019 Premondiale Giro Toscana, in Italy, when finishing second in the third and last stage, after wearing the leader jersey from the start, last Friday.
Thus, she achieved her tenth victory in an elite race this season when running for the Italian-Kazakh club Astana Women´s Team.
In the historic city of Toscana, Sierra won the first stage which was a time-trial race and then, on Saturday, she ranked second on the second stretch of 133.6 kilometers.
Sierra, 26, was escorted in the general classification by Australian Chloe Hosking (Ale Cipollini) and Russian Anastasia Chursina (BTC City Ljubljana), in that order.
In this 24th edition of the Toscana classic, the formation of the Astana included the also Cuban Heidy Praderas, as well as Ukrainian Olga Shekel, Colombian Liliana Moreno and Kazakhs Faina Potapova and Svetlana Pachshenko.
According to the official website of the event, the race was attended by 25 professional clubs and the national squads of Russia, South Africa, Israel and Ukraine.
The tournament served as a warm-up for the World Road Cycling Championship, which will be held from September 22 to 28, in Great Britain.
