A meeting on journalism in Artemisa

Artemisa, Cuba - Journalists from the province of Artemisa, communicators, directors of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), leaders of enterprises and organizations, gathered at the Angerona Art Gallery in the capital municipality of the territory, with the aim of strengthening ways of doing a journalism closer to people.
The use of technologies, the treatment of criticism, salary increase, ethical policies, current trends on social networks, relations with the source of information and the training of press professionals, were some of the issues addressed during the meeting.
Herminio, a retired combatant from the Villa Roja, stated: “Every day the work of journalists is perfected, despite the circumstances they have to deal with. Cuban journalists are at the service of the people, unlike the rest of the world, where the press responds to the interests of the rich and large companies. Of the weekly newspaper ''el artemiseño'', I admire its youth and “the heart” that beats in each chronicle, report, comment or information ”.
Jorge Velázquez Ramayo, analyst, journalist and researcher, recalled that the truth is to be said. He stressed the importance of the analysis to deal with recurring issues that the press should not ignore, for example, the new price regulations. He called on them to keep the people informed as they trust Cuban journalists.
During the meeting, communicators from institutions such as the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, the Provincial Court and the Directorate of Culture, presented their experiences acquired in recent years, based on the expectations of the nation regarding Social Communication.
Odalis Acosta Góngora, president of the Upec in Artemisa, referred to the role of each media to disseminate the reality we have built. “We have to be aware of everything that happens, and we are authorized to inform the people. We will soon have our Press House; there we will create a space for permanent reflection in order to grow as a province ”.
The Cuban Workers Union (CTC) and the Culture Union, highlighted the work carried out by journalists Miguel Terry Valdespino and Joel Mayor, who were awarded the Raúl Gómez García Distinction, receiving the praise of the CTC, union leaders, the people, and of his colleagues, for the merit achieved during 25 years of work in the sector.
