
Artemisa, Cuba - The Lazaro Peña Tobacco Company, located in San Antonio de los Baños, is getting ready for the Tobacco Planting Campaign, to begin in October. According to Vladimir Andino Ruibal, 639 hectares have been programmed to be planted during the upcoming campaign, distributed in 10 Cooperative Production Units, 2 Agricultural Production Cooperatives and 2 Credit and Service Cooperatives, located in the province of Artemisa.
''Since August 17, seed irrigation began, using the root ball technique. The varieties of seeds to be planted during this campaign include Corojo 2012, Criollo 2010 and 98, approved by the Tabacuba Group and the Tobacco Research Institute based on the phytosanitary and varietal strategy,'' said the director.
Andino Ruibal added that the actions for soil plowing are being carried out according to the plan, despite the effects caused by rainfall. For the preparation of the planting campaign, the Tobacco Company has all the resources and agricultural means as well as the labor force necessary to carry it out.
