September 21: World Alzheimer's Day

Artemisa, Cuba - World Alzheimer's Day is commemorated every September 21. Representatives of Public Health, Education, Culture and Sports, students and members of the Friends, Family and Caregivers of Alzheimer's Patients  Association, in San Antonio de los Baños, participated in the 7th edition of the traditional ''March in favor of memory''.

As a white sea of ​​people, between smiles and applause, with slogans and posters, the commitment of the authorities and the people of Ariguanabo was reaffirmed, given the challenge that this pathology represents worldwide.

Dr. Master in Science Saily Sosa, responsible for the Cognitive Disorders Department in San Antonio de los Baños, expressed the challenge that Alzheimer's represents - as a neurodegenerative disease - for neurosciences, Cuban Public Health and society. At present more than 50 million people suffer from Alzheimer's, therefore it is considered an epidemic of the 21st century. Unfortunately, that figure is expected to triple by 2050.

However, in Cuba the clinical trial of the drug NEUROEPO is carried out in patients with Alzheimer's disease, with the aim of slowing the progression of the disease and improving the patients' quality of life.
