Venezuelan President Maduro arrives in Moscow

Moscow - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro arrives in Moscow on Tuesday, where he will meet with his Russian peer Vladimir Putin to assess bilateral relations and the political, economic and media aggression Venezuela is facing, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated.
'He arrives today (Tuesday), but, as I understand, the major day of the visit will be tomorrow (Wednesday),' the Russian deputy foreign minister said.
Venezuela is going through a political crisis that worsened in January when US-backed opposition leader Juan Guaido questioned the re-election of current President Nicolas Maduro and declared himself as an interim president.
Maduro accused the United States of trying to orchestrate a coup d'etat to force a change of government in Venezuela and reclaim the country's resources.
While the United States and its allies have recognized Guaido as the leader of Venezuela, Russia, China and most of UN member countries support Maduro as the only legitimate President of Venezuela.
