Artemisa, Cuba - Domingo Lence Novo Elementary School, in San Antonio de los Baños, is an example of the attention and inclusion of students with special educational needs, to which the Cuban National Education System aspires.

Deborah Seleiro Díaz, Sign Language Specialist, explained to Radio Ariguanabo how the inclusion of students with hearing impairment is achieved in Primary Education.

According to Seleiro Díaz, the work starts from the diagnosis made to the student when he enters the center; then actions are carried out for specialized attention, and subsequently, the work begins in Preschool Education, with the teaching of geometric figures, colors, and the contents of the degree.

Deborah Seleiro said that once the school starts Primary Education, her job is to be the bridge between him and his teacher with the consequent learning, not only of the contents, but of habits, skills, and all the knowledge for life.

The young sign language interpreter expresses her satisfaction when she achieves total inclusion and incorporation of her students into society.

International Sign Language Day is celebrated every September 23, together with the International Week of the Deaf, with the aim of ensuring the social inclusion of sign language users, for the full realization of their human rights .
