Cuban president concludes national tour to oversee implementation of measures

Nueva Gerona - Cuban president Miguel Diaz Canel concluded Friday in the special municipality of the Isle of Youth a national tour covering the island's 15 provinces to oversee the implementation of measures applied in the aftermath of the fuel crunch provoked by stepped up US hostility.

Rafael Borrego, director of transportation in the Isle of Youth, reported on the alternatives adopted in the special municipality to maintain the vitality of public transportation, with a plan of 14 thousand passengers per day, currently operating with a 20% fuel reduction.

For his part, Eduardo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport alluded to the relevance of perfecting good experiences, keeping the population informed and improving the communication system among the island’s different localities,.

On Thursday, Diaz Canel visited the central provinces of Sancti Spiritus, Cienfuegos and Villa Clara, completing the tour of the 15 provinces on the main island of the archipelago.

Summarizing his visit in Cienfuegos, Diaz Canel praised people's response amidst the current fuel crisis.

 "I never thought that the response as a country would be so original, concrete, comprehensive, coherent, intelligent and committed that the people have given," he said.
