Patrols for education and energy savings

Artemisa, Cuba - Julio Antonio Mella elementary school in San Antonio de los Baños activates the ''Patrullas Click'' (Click Patrols) in order to contribute to energy savings.

The director of the institution, Yunelainéz Hernández del Río, explained to Radio Ariguanabo that the creation of the Click Patrols constitutes an alternative for the development of an energy saving awareness, so necessary today.

The structure of these patrols consists of: the President (the Director of the school); the Vice President (the center's Base Guide); the Brigade Chief, (a teacher - the group guide - or a pioneer). These Patrols operate from third to sixth grades, and are identified with a credential.

According to Hernández del Río, the main objective of the Click Patrols is to raise awareness among students and workers of the center about the importance of saving; that's why actions, poems, riddles and stories on this subject are exposed on the school mural.

The elaboration of educational teaching means, including puzzles and board games, allows the motivation of children and helps teachers when planning and teaching the classes, said Yunelainéz Hernández.

Hernández del Río referred to the ''Operacion Tun–Tun'' carried out by the members of the Click Patrols, a way of transmitting the importance of saving to the population.

Given the current situation, the Cuban Ministry of Education implemented several measures in educational institutions, including: the redesign of teaching hours; the reduction of the use of computer, english and science laboratories, as well as of TV sets and other electrical equipment.

These measures must be established in every school, according to the specific needs and particularities, taking into account the Work System and the Methodological Work System; Hence the activation of the Click Patrols.

With the activation of Click Patrols, Julio Antonio Mella Elementary School maintains energy consumption within the established parameters, contributing to the education of future generations in terms of energy savings.
