Principles and convictions do not change

I love the freedom of this Island and I delight in a country where human rights are respected. But ... what happens when the crudeness of some ''blocks'' tries to suppress our dreams?

What happens when a foreign neighbor massively and systematically violates our rights, which are mine, yours and nobody else's? What happens when, simply, that is, barbarously, the brutal enemy decides to block my Island for no reason?

It is that, Cuba has been a victim of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for almost six decades; a measure applied by the US government in order to paralyze Cuban economic development.

However, Cuba is moving forward with determination, in order to achieve the sustainable development objectives. Thanks to the efforts, Cuba has social indicators comparable to those of some developed countries.

And what can you tell me about the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, which penalizes trade and investments of third-state companies with the Island, causing serious damage to the well-being of the Cuban population?

I think you will agree with me when I confirm that, with the government of Donald Trump, intensified aggression has returned to the Greater Antilles. And that the United States government is interested in hindering Cuba's projects, and thus destabilizing the socialist system, which has been maintained for so many years of Revolution.

But today, as the President of the Councils of State and Ministers Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez recently said, ''Cuban society is defending sovereignty, independence, and dignity. We are tearing down imperial plans, we are disarming the imposition of that neo-liberal colony platform which they have long wanted to impose.''

Although the times are different, the principles, the convictions, the will, the concept of resistance and victory do not change. Nothing will vary due to the US blockade, because we know how to resist, because as a song says, ''if there is no water to fill an old basin, then we sow it with violets; and if the fence loses its shine, we simply tangle the Coralillo and it blooms.''
