Habitat conservation in Ariguanabo

Artemisa, Cuba - The habitat  conservation of the flora and fauna species is a priority for environmental authorities, in San Antonio de los Baños.

The habitat is the environment or space occupied by a specific biologic population. It is a place with the appropriate conditions for an organism, a species or a plant community to live.

According to biologist Giraldo Alayón, member of the Ariguanabo Foundation, it is necessary to strengthen the protection of gallery forests around the Ariguanabo river, as well as in the town's urban center.

"Artificial habitats must be preserved, such as the Ariguanabo's Bosque Martiano, where different species of plants and animals interact," the biologist added.

Alayón called for strengthening environmental education work with young people and children in order to promote environmental protection and care.

''The environmental laws, established to educate all reckless citizens, need to be rigorously applied. In addition, 365 days a year should be dedicated to life and the environment,'' said Giraldo Alayón.
