Miranda State Governor Hector Rodriguez repeated the government's willingness to hold talks, even with US President Donald Trump, under the terms of Venezuela's Constitution, in order to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis in the country. 'We want political agreements that include all, but the opposition should have autonomy in that regard,' stated Rodriguez, who is also a member of the Government Commission participating in the National Negotiating Table.
He called on all sectors of Venezuela's right wing to abandon the path of violence and demand that the Trump administration stop its policy of economic blockade.
Rodriguez noted that in contrast to the talks in Barbados, where the so-called Group of 4, made up of the political parties Primero Justicia, Voluntad Popular, Un Nuevo Tiempo and Accion Democratica, were represented, the National Negotiating Table involves other opposition parties that participated in the latest presidential elections.
'We want to settle a historic conflict in a democratic, peaceful manner, within the framework of the Constitution. We do not want to solve it with coups or military interventions or blockades,' he stressed.
Rodriguez recalled that during the talks in the Dominican Republic in 2018, there was consensus among parties about electoral guarantees.
However, he noted that the opposition withdrew following international pressures, according to denunciations by the government.
The Governor regretted that Venezuela's right wing disregards the impact of the coercive measures imposed by the US government on the Venezuelan people, and promotes aggressions of that kind against the country.
