Turkey intensifies attacks on Syria

Cities and towns of northeastern Syria were the targets of intense Turkish artillery and aerial bombardments, Syrian media reported Friday. The cities of Ras al-Ain and Tal Abyan, both bordering Turkey, are still being violently bombarded, amid attempts by Turkish soldiers and the pro-Turkish Syrian National Army militia to advance into Syrian territory,' the official Syrian news agency SANA reported.

Meanwhile, intense clashes are currently taking place between the Turkish military and the Kurdish militias inside the city of Ras al-Ain.

The attacks have caused the displacement of tens of thousands of civilians who left their homes and headed for areas further south of the border area.

'Entire towns and villages were left empty in the northern provinces of Hasakeh and Raqqa,' Syrian daily Al-Watan reported.

Kurdish militias also announced that 20 of their members were killed in the raids, while Turkish media reported the death of one soldier.

Some 30 civilians were killed, mostly women and children, in three days of bombing.

Turkey began military operations in Syrian territory under the pretext of creating a safe zone on its borders, which was condemned by Damascus, considering it an aggression that violates the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
