Havana - Cuba is working at an accelerated pace to boost its economy amidst a scenario marked by increased hostility from the United States.

Almost every day, the national press reports President Miguel Diaz-Canel's meetings with different sectors of the society to check the progress of an endless number of programs: tourism, energy, industrial, computerization, among others.

The Cuban economy suffered in recent months from the effects of the punitive policy of President Donald Trump, who decided to bury any vestige of the agreements signed by his predecessor Barack Obama and the island's authorities.

The limitation of remittances, the prohibition of cruise ship trips, the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act and the persecution of oil tankers transporting crude oil to the country are just the tip of the iceberg of that punitive strategy.

Only from April 2018 to March 2019, the blockade in Washington caused losses to Cuba of 4,343.6 million dollars, although at current prices, the figure rises to 138,843.4 million in almost six decades.

However, Havana is working not only to overcome these difficulties but also to revitalize its economy in order to improve the living conditions of the population.

Despite the hostility of the United States, Cuba is developing its economy to satisfy domestic demand and improve the achievements of the Revolution.
