Barcelona - The president of FC Barcelona, Josep María Bartomeu, today condemned the violent acts that took place in Catalonia these days, but lamented the condemnations of the separatist leaders.
In a separate part in the Forum Europe Tribune Catalonia, the Barça´s chief explained to the press that in no case the violent route should not be the solution to the problems.
For several days, in Catalonia - mainly in Barcelona, clashes have occurred between police and protesters, who reject the high convictions of several of their leaders for the attempted secession of that Spanish region in 2017.
After saying 'no' to violence, Bartomeu remarked that prison to separatist leaders is also not a viable solution to resolve differences in that Autonomous Community.
After four months of trial and another four months of deliberation, the judges of the highest judicial instance in Spain decreed prison sentences of up to 13 years for nine of the 12 involved in the failed attempt at secession two years ago.
After knowing the decision, Barcelona issued an official statement in which considers that the resolution of the conflict that Catalonia is going through, exclusively, through political dialogue. It highlights the position of the club in favor of 'the defense of freedom of expression and the right to decide'.
